One course, enough rigs to run the trials.
In January 2026 a public high school in New Jersey received Drosophila Y-mazes for the honors research course in its medical sciences magnet program.
Before that, students shared the few mazes the school owned and cut the number of trials to fit. Behavioral work needs repeated trials under matched conditions, so a shortage of rigs shows up directly in the data, and then in whether a project can stand up at a science fair.
